The Enough Project

Imagine a world where children don’t have the basic human right of getting an education.

This injustice is happening right now in Darfur, a region in Sudan, Africa. Nearly three million people are living in camps and facing violence, rape and shortages of water and medicine. The country's president remains wanted for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity. Darfuri children are among the most vulnerable, and without the ability to go to school, their futures look even dimmer.

The Enough Project is an organization working to end genocide and crimes against humanity. One of the project’s goals is to help every refugee child in Darfur get an education by building and supporting schools in the refugee camps. Donations designated for these schools directly benefit the children.

As a student of Merrill Middle School, I (Elli Bandstra) am participating in the 7th grade Global Studies Service Project, where I am working to raise money for Darfuri children to attend refugee camp schools. My goal is to raise at least $200.

How you can help a refugee learn:

1) Donate directly on-line by going to www.enoughproject.org. (Since this is for a school project, I also ask that you email me with the amount you donated so I can add it to the total amount raised. My email is elli.bandstra@gmail.com.)

 2) Write a check to the Enough Project or give cash and hand it to me. I plan to send all donations to the Enough Project by the end of May.

3) Purchase merchandise at Zumi, a fair trade store, located at 1141 – 42nd Street in Des Moines anytime during the week before Mother’s Day (May 1st-May 8th). The owner, Ms. Lu Spaine, will donate 10% of any purchase towards the Enough Project when a customer mentions the Enough Project. Zumi also has an on-line store at www.zumi.com. To indicate that you would like 10% of your purchase to be donated to this effort, simply type Enough Project in the Customer Notes box on the Place Order page when checking out.
